Texas Hold’em
Texas Hold’em is one of the most popular online
poker games that is available today. The rules of the game are easy
to learn and the game itself is lots of fun to play. The first thing
that you need to understand is how the Blinds work. The two players
sitting to the immediate left of the dealer (or the player with the
dealer button) are the Big Blind and the Small Blind, respectively.
The Small Blind must post half of the minimum bet and the Big Blind
must post the whole minimum bet, this is done in order to build the
pot. After the Blinds have been posted, each player is dealt two
cards, face down and the first round of betting begins. The first
betting round allows players to call, raise or fold. When this has
been done, the “Flop” is displayed. The Flop is the 1st 3 of 5
community cards that are laid face up on the table for all to see
and use. The second round of betting now begins, allowing players to
check, raise, call or fold. The next community card to be shown is
the Turn card and yet another betting round commences as described
above. Finally, the River or final community card is laid on the
table, face up and a final round of betting is conducted with any
remaining players and then the winner is determined by whomever has
the best hand.
In order to help you to improve your Texas
Hold’em game, we would like to offer you a strategy that will help
you to better take advantage of your position at the table. A
working knowledge of the strong and weak points of each position
will vastly improve your skills. The first thing to know is what the
positions are called. The player to the left of the Big Blind always
acts first before the Flop, and in addition to the two players to
his or her left are known as the Early Position. The next three
players are the middle position and the rest of the players are the
late position. Now that the positions have been named, the following
shows a strategy for playing each position:
Early Position
Raise with A-A, K-K and suited A-K (this works in any position.)
Call with A-K, suited A-Q, suited K-Q (s), Q-Q, J-J, and
10-10 Fold all other hands
In Middle position Call w/
9-9, 8-8, suited A-J, suited A-10, suited Q-J, A-Q, and K-Q
In Late position Call w/ suited A-X, suited K-10, suited
Q-10, suited J-10, A-J, A-10 and any small pairs.
No matter how long
you have been playing, you should always keep an eye open for new
and helpful tips. Hopefully, the tips that we have to offer will be
able to provide you with a new perspective on the game. One of the
things that you need to watch is that you do not play too many
hands, know when to get out to save yourself some money. Also keep
in mind that if you are either the Big or Small Blind, try not to
play like you are defending the blinds. This can cause carelessness
and can also cause you to lose a lot more money than necessary. One
of the most important tips that can be given (in any game) is to
make sure that you ALWAYS pay close attention to the game,
especially when you have folded. If you pay attention to everything
that is going on (and yes, this can be done in an online game), you
can learn how the other players play certain hands. If done
correctly, this can give you a definite advantage over those
players.
